I am making my own game engine with the goal of having an open source MIT version of Geo-Mod. So, anyone can make a game with realistic destruction without having to pay havoc hundreds of thousands of dollars or convince THQ Nordic to give us the engine code. It is very early stages right now but it is on my GitHub if you want to take a look. Also, if you know C++ you are free to help this probably will take years if not decades to be viable so don't hold your breath.
